" I also tasted the 2018 VS, from a cooler and rainier year than 2017 and with an absence of frost, delivering a healthier crop with good natural concentration, finesse and harmony. This wine is sourced from two vineyards, and the grapes were fermented by vineyard in stainless steel with indigenous yeasts and matured in French oak barrels for 26 months. This is very young and primary, with harmonious tannins but in need of time in bottle to deliver what's inside. As with the other 2018s, this has complexity and depth; the wine is juicy, and the tannins are not hard. There is great balance and superb aging potential. 43,362 bottles produced. It was bottled in February 2021."
Founded in 1980 by Mariano García in memory of his father, Bodegas Mauro has been committed to excellence from the very beginning. Balanced and elegant wines meant for aging which assert the identity of each terroir and the attributes of the different varieties.
Bodegas Mauro is enclaved in the historic town of Tudela de Duero, in the province of Valladolid, just 19 kilometres from the provincial capital right in the heart of the Duero Valley. Located on the right bank halfway along this great river that embraces the village in a horseshoe shape.
The wine was first made in a large restored 17th century house, a magnificent example of traditional architecture with underground storage facilities. This house currently holds aging rooms and a historical bottle rack.
A new winery was built with a sleek design just outside Tudela de Duero in 2004. Following several expansion periods, all the production processes from harvesting to bottling are now centralised at these facilities.
