In Robert Parkers words: "Great Quality for the price"
If Rioja Alta decided to release this wine In a year marked by April frosts, it clearly wasn't a financial decision.

    Robert Parker, 91 pts

"I was quite impressed by the harmony of the 2017 Finca San Martín, which shows remarkable integration of all its components, good ripeness without any excess and integrated oak (it matured in 60% new American and 40% second use French barriques for 16 months with three rackings) with fine tannins and a clean and precise finish. Great quality for the price. Outstanding for the adverse conditions of 2017. "

    James Suckling, 90 pts

"A red with plum and chocolate, as well as cedar and butter. It’s medium-to-full-bodied with soft, integrated tannins and a focused, fruity finish. Better in a year or two."

  • La Rioja Alta

Founded by 5 Riojan families in 1890 in the famous Haro Station district as "Sociedad Vinicola de la Rioja Alta", and with their first president being Saturnina Garcia Cid y Garate (Remarkable that Saturnina was a woman, quite rare at the time. This shows the innovative and modern spirit of this historic winery since its inception). Their first winemaker was a Monsieur Vigier, a French man who create Rioja Alta's Gran Reserva 890 as his first wine.

It wasn't until 1904 that Alfredo Ardanza, founder of the Ardanza winery, proposed to merge both companies, which eventually became "La Rioja Alta S.A." in 1941.
