Clos Mogador is a 40% Garnacha, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Syrah and 20% Carignan red from the reknowned Spanish Wine region Priorat. Ageing takes place in 500 liter new French oak casks for one year with racking by gravity every three months. The Syrah is aged in vat to maintain the lively fresh fruit flavors. After blending of the different grape varieties the wine spends the second winter in vat. No stainless steel is used here, only fibreglass and wooden vats. The doors of the cellar are kept open in winter to encourage the precipitation of tartrates. Unfined and unfiltered, the wine is bottled in the spring or autumn of the second year after the harvest.

Tasting Notes

James Suckling, 97 pts:

A beautiful, fresh red with lots of vibrancy. Mineral, flint, freshly crushed blueberries and red berries. Juicy, polished tannins with a little more crunch to the fruit this year. Has a nice firmness compared with the sweeter tannins in 2020. Really fluid, bright and vivid. Long. Drink or hold

Winery

Clos Mogador is a renowned winery located in the Priorat region of Catalonia, Spain. It's highly regarded for producing premium quality wines, particularly reds. The estate is owned by René Barbier, a key figure in the resurgence of Priorat wines in the late 20th century.

The vineyards of Clos Mogador are situated on steep slopes of the Montsant mountain range, characterized by its unique terroir of slate and quartz soils, which impart distinctive mineral notes to the wines. The estate primarily focuses on traditional grape varieties native to the region, such as Garnacha (Grenache), Carignan, and Cariñena, as well as some international varieties like Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon.

Clos Mogador's wines are often described as powerful, complex, and age-worthy, with rich flavors of dark fruit, spice, and earthiness. They typically undergo meticulous production processes, including hand-harvesting, rigorous grape selection, and aging in oak barrels to enhance their depth and complexity.

Overall, Clos Mogador is celebrated both domestically and internationally for its exceptional wines, contributing significantly to the prestige of Priorat as one of Spain's premier wine regions.
