El Zarzal is the first wine of Emilio Moro's godello wine range with an evident varietal vocation that respects the variety character without giving up freshness.

El Zarzal's Godellpo grapes come from vineyards located in Valle del Silencio (León), more than 600 meters above sea level, on loamy clay-sandy soils, with a slightly acid pH.

"This white shows finesse, offering generous layers of lychee, orange blossom, papaya and honey flavors that stay focused, with mineral, spice and herb underpinnings. A touch of vanilla lingers on the finish."

"Even if they are not quite from the Duero zone but from Bierzo, I also tasted their whites produced with Godello grapes, including the 2018 El Zarzal, which has 13% alcohol, very good acidity and low pH. It was produced with fruit from vines averaging 15 years of age, fermented in oak at controlled temperature and matured in French 2,500-liter oak foudres with the lees for eight months. It's expressive and aromatic, with some grape-pulp aromas, somewhat floral and with a spicy touch. It's varietal and clean, with integrated oak, a medium-bodied palate and a refreshing finish, serious and with a mineral twist."

"Bright, green-tinged straw. Sharply focused Meyer lemon, pear and honeysuckle aromas take on smoky mineral and spicy ginger flourishes with air. Silky and well-delineated on the palate, offering vibrant orchard and citrus fruit flavors that deepen slowly with aeration. Shows depth as well as energy and finishes sappy and long, with resonating floral and mineral notes. Drinking window: 2021 - 2026."

Jeb Dunnuck, 90 pts

"The entry level white, the 2018 El Zarzal is 100% Godello that spent 8 months in French oak foudre. It's another beautifully done white from this estate that has juicy melon and pineapple fruits, plenty of spice and subtle creamy nuances, medium-bodied richness, juicy acidity, and a clean, crisp finish. It will be hard to beat as a tapas wine."

“To make good wine, it’s necessary to love wine” Emilio Moro

Currently run by the Moro’s family third generation, the winery produces great wine from vineyards that are used also to name them, such as Resalso (their entry-level wine, from a vineyard planted in 1932), Valderramiro and Sancho Martin, both naming two variants of the Malleolus family, launched more than 20 years ago.

Emilio Moro, the current owner’s grandfather was born in Pesquera de Duero, one of Ribera del Duero’s most popular towns. He’s credited for passing his love for winemaking to his son and grandchildren that ended in this legendary winery.

Tradition - For the Moro family, “tradition implies responsibility”. They claim the quality of their wines is based, in part, on the three generations of tradition.

Innovation - Emilio Moro collaborates with multiple research depts in Spain colleagues to improve and perfect winemaking processes.
